Old Pueblo Pipe Club
July 21 2004 Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 7pm by President Bob Welch. Quite a few were in attendance with new members
Jeff and Dave. Welcome back to Will who is now working for Mark at the Tinder Box.
The main topic at this meeting was the arrival of our 1st club pipes. They are Turkish meerschaums made by Gulel, many
thanks to Billy B for getting this project together and seeing it through.
Billy B was a bit worried, we had ordered a smooth finish but a few came in carved. Well no need for him
to have worried because I think quite a few ended up liking the carved ones more. But to make the thing
fair to everyone he had us do a blind draw on the pipes and we had to keep what we drew or trade with
someone else if they could get someone to trade. Well I don't think anyone did a trade, every one was
happy with what they got.
The club purchased a meer for member Nick who is in Iraq, it will be sent over with a bit of tobacco for
him to enjoy.
Since there are several more members who wish to purchase club pipes, I will be placing another order
in the near future. I have emailed the maker for a price quote and should be ready to take orders at
the August meeting. If you wish to order a pipe and are unable to attend the meeting, please contact
me ASAP. However, this time it will be necessary for me to receive payment in advance
A motion was made and passed for the club to pay the shipping costs for future pipe orders, for members only.
There was some discussion about new tobacco laws which are pending in congress. All solutions, which
were put forth, were deemed illegal and no motions were made. [ Why don’t they pass some laws against
bad stuff, like yogurt and cottage cheese?!
The meeting was adjourned and the rest of the evening was spent with P. S. & B. S. That’s Pipe Smoke and
oh well, you know.
I must say they are fantastic pipes for the money and mine loaded with Penzance is sure a good smoker. BTW
mine ended up being a carved one and there is a close up of it below.
